The Weslaco Economic Development Corporation joined community members to mark the groundbreaking of the Iwo Jima Monument at Harlon Block Park, honoring the “Weslaco Eight” and other military veterans. The tribute recognizes the service and sacrifice of Harlon Block, one of the six Marines who raised the U.S. flag at Iwo Jima. The monument will serve as a lasting symbol of courage and the community’s respect for those who served. The project highlights Weslaco’s commitment to preserving veterans’ stories for future generations.
