Treviño: What makes Saronic particularly exciting is the breadth of opportunities it will create

Posted

Good morning to everyone. On behalf of Cameron County, I'm here to welcome each and every one of you to this wonderful, historic, transformational event. I want to recognize our distinguished guests: Vice President J.D. Vance, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, Congressman Nathaniel Moran, Undersecretary William Kimmttt, and Director Russell Vought.

But most importantly, I want to thank Saronic Technologies co-founder and CEO Dino Mavrookas for his vision and decision to choose Cameron County as a location for Project Alpha. We're happy to see the fruition of the collaborative work that went into bringing Saronic and Port Alpha to Cameron County. We've always believed in the capabilities of our people of Cameron County. Agreements and partnerships with companies like Saronic, SpaceX, and our LNG industry are helping to expand access to good-paying jobs and providing new career opportunities for the people of Cameron County.

The Chapter 312 tax abatement is one tool that we can use to continue to compete for these transformational investments, bringing companies here, encouraging them to stay here, and giving them an incentive to continue investing here. Thank you to Governor Abbott and his staff.

What makes Saronic particularly exciting is the breadth of opportunities that it will create, from welding, machining, and fabrication to robotics, software engineering, advanced manufacturing, and naval architecture. This part of South Texas, Cameron County, is demonstrating that it is one of the fastest-growing areas of our state and our country when it comes to manufacturing, energy, technology, transportation, and now national defense.

For generations, Cameron County may have been lacking the attention and investment that I always thought we were entitled to, but all of this success required an alignment of local, state, and federal partners to make it happen. I hope this collaboration continues for decades and generations to come, because the investments we're making today aren't just about the jobs we create now; they're about creating more opportunities for the people who will call Cameron County home in the future.

Congratulations to Saronic Technology and all of our local, state, and federal partners. This is an exciting day for Cameron County, God bless us all.

Editor's Note: The above remarks were delivered by Cameron County Judge Treviño, Jr., at a groundbreaking ceremony for Saronic Technologies’ Port Alpha project at the Port of Brownsville.
