Brownsville City Manager Helen Ramirez, the first woman to serve in the role, will leave the municipality at the end of the year, with a farewell celebration scheduled for Dec. 18 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Brownsville Events Center. Ramirez, who joined the city’s leadership in 2019 as deputy city manager, has helped guide major economic development projects, infrastructure improvement, and long-term planning initiatives in recent years. Her work includes advancing the city’s “One City” philosophy, overseeing a $300 million capital improvement program, and supporting major projects such as an $80 million public safety complex and expansions at the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport. She also played a role in new retail and hospitality investments and in strengthening the city’s financial and transparency measures.
