Wright: Trump administration's goal is to build big things in America again

Posted

I am honored to be here at the Port of Brownsville, standing with these commissioners who are leading the way in the incredible economic dynamism of Brownsville.

I came down to Brownsville today and was going to be here with Vice President Vance for a simple reason: Brownsville illustrates exactly what the Trump administration is about, and in the simplest terms, I'd say the Trump administration's goal is to build big things in America again. Lean in on our energy industry, grow our energy production in this country, use that energy to power local industries as we're seeing them spring up, grow the scale around Brownsville, and export that energy to our friends and allies all around the world.

We are thrilled to see the range of large projects, the major investments in job creation going around in Brownsville. That doesn't just happen. It needs to be made to happen. So I thank all the leaders standing behind me at the port, all the business leaders we just met with that believe in investing in large scale in the United States, building jobs in our country, growing our energy production, and having the benefits of that increased production flow through in lower costs to American citizens, lower costs to American businesses. And as businesses grow and hire more workers, that pushes up wages. The Trump administration’s agenda, in brief: higher wages, lower costs. It's that simple.

I also want to thank everyone in the press for coming. You come, investigate, ask questions, and report to the American people. It's an essential function. Thank you for doing it.

Editor’s Note: Along with other industry and education leaders from across the Rio Grande Valley, Joaquin. Spamer, president of CIL Group and chairman of RioPlex, was invited to meet Secretary Wright at the Port of Brownsville. Spamer later said:

“Mario (Reyna) and I were invited to participate and we were honored to be seated at the roundtable with the Secretary. RioPlex is already being recognized at the state level, and in some instances at the federal level. The Port continues to drive the economic development of the region. The federal government is interested in supporting the regional growth, and that is going to bring prosperity to RioPlex. There are more federal key players coming in the future, and the participation of the higher education community was key to the meeting. I couldn't be more proud of the Port and Mario and the local representatives and their teams.

“Ariba RioPlex. Ariba.”

Editor’s Note: The “Mario” Spamer references is Mario Reyna, executive director of RioPlex.
