BROWNSVILLE, Texas - Texas Southmost College recently received a $50,000 check from Bechtel Energy to train workers for the big liquefied natural gas export terminal project being undertaken at the Port of Brownsville by NextDecade.
TSC held a press conference at the college’s ITEC Center just prior to the check presentation. The speakers were TSC President Jesús Roberto Rodríguez, TSC Board of Trustees Chair Adela Garza, and Mike Demers, deputy site manager for Bechtel. The moderator was Richard Mesquias, Jr., vice president of external affairs for TSC.
"Our partnership with Bechtel is creating incredible opportunities for up to 40 NCCER Pipefitting Level II students at Texas Southmost College," said Ricardo Treviño, director of industry relations and outreach at Texas Southmost College.
"With a generous $50,000 donation, Bechtel is funding scholarships that will help students gain the training, skills, and confidence they need to succeed while also creating a pipeline of skilled employees ready to join their workforce."
Treviño added: "This collaboration is more than a donation, it’s an investment in students, families, and the future of our community."
Mike Demers, deputy site manager with Bechtel, said: “This is a perfect community for us to make a difference. It’s a great way for us to invest in the future. This is a great partnership.”
