PHARR, TEXAS - Pharr Economic Development Corporation is working on a “huge” education project, according to the group’s president, Victor Perez.
“There is a project in the education field that we’re working on right now. If we get this one done it should be huge, not just for Pharr but for the region,” Perez said in an exclusive video interview with the Rio Grande Guardian International News Service.
The interview took place before Monday’s Pharr EDC board meeting. Discussions about the education project took place in executive session. The discussion included a conversation with a top higher education official.
“Hopefully, we can continue the talks with these people. And hopefully we get that project down here,” Perez said.
In the video interview, Perez also discussed the EDC’s foundation, which gives scholarships to local students. He said almost $1 million has been raised to help almost 40 local high school students defray the cost of going to college.
Perez also spoke about new restaurants coming to Pharr, and more cold storage warehouse projects.
He also said that Pharr’s blazing fast broadband service is proving an attraction to new businesses wishing to locate in the city. “It’s an added-value item,” Perez said.
