SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas - The Texas Department of Transportation is to host a public information community workshop for the South Padre Island Second Access Project.
The in-person workshop will be held on Thursday, November 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at South Padre Island Convention Center.
A virtual option will be available on Wednesday, November 5 from 5:00 p.m. To access this option go to TxDOT.gov and search for “South Padre Island Second Access".
TxDOT says the purpose of the Second Access project is “to improve mobility and enhance public safety related to access to and from South Padre Island during an emergency evacuation.”
Both at the in-person and the virtual workshops, TxDOT will share information on the Second Access project history and environmental studies currently underway.
TxDOT will also show potential alternative connections from the Texas mainland to South Padre Island.
No formal presentation is planned.
All comments received on or before Friday, November 21 2025 will be included as part of TxDOT’s records for the project.
