BROWNSVILLE, Texas - Ricardo Treviño, director of industry relations and outreach at Texas Southmost College, has spoken about a new program his college is offering in conjunction with the Greater Chamber of Harlingen.

The Small Business Leadership and Operational Growth Training Series is designed to support local employers in strengthening leadership capacity and improving business operations.

Treviño said the series will provide small businesses across the Harlingen area with access to high-quality professional development opportunities at no cost, with funding available through a Skills Development Grant.

“This initiative is about removing barriers and opening doors,” Treviño said.

“Too often, small businesses are ready to grow but lack access to affordable, high-quality training. Through this partnership, we’re ensuring our local employers can strengthen leadership, improve operations, and invest in their workforce—without the financial burden that typically stands in the way.”

Treviño made his remarks in a podcast with the RGG Business Journal. He also spoke about a new training center project TSC is working on for South Padre Island. Here is the podcast:

Treviño said the training series will officially kick off with an educational workshop on April 22, hosted at the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce. The session will focus on helping small businesses access available funding to train their employees, while also introducing leadership and operational growth strategies that will be expanded throughout the series.

The program is open to small business owners, supervisors and managers, front-line staff and human resources and operations personnel.

Treviño said seating is limited, and the registration deadline is April 17. He encouraged businesses to register early to secure participation.
