Dear Readers,
The City of McAllen has it all, including good quality of life and economic growth. The city continues to grow and develop in these areas due to long-term vision, commitment to stewardship, and intentional investment in people, infrastructure, and essential services.
Today, McAllen stands as one of the most compelling destinations for growth along the United States-Mexico border. Nearly $5 billion in taxable retail sales generated close to $100 million in annual sales tax revenue, placing our community among the strongest-performing
Texas with populations above 100,000. Residential
and commercial construction surpassed.
$500 million in value, reflecting sustained confidence from builders,
entrepreneurs, and families choosing to call McAllen home. At the same time, crime has reached a 40-year low, declining more than 80 percent since 1995 and reinforcing our standing as one of the safest major cities in the nation.
Our economy is binational by design and strengthened by meaningful cross-border relationships. Recent analysis shows Reynosa residents spent more than $49 million in McAllen across 33 peak shopping days, generating nearly $80 million in total regional economic impact and highlighting the purchasing power of a growing middle-income population. Embracing this shared economic reality allows McAllen to set the pace regionally for collaboration, trade, and prosperity.
Opportunity is also defined by jobs and workforce readiness. Each year, the city partners with Workforce Solutions to host large-scale job fairs where employers hire on the spot, connecting residents to meaningful careers and supporting business expansion. This coordinated approach ensures that economic growth translates into real opportunity for families while providing companies with the skilled talent they need to succeed.
Beyond economics, experiences in McAllen are unlike any other location. Signature events such as the McAllen Holiday Parade, Fiesta de Palmas, Symphony in the Park, and Broadway performances at the McAllen Performing Arts Center create year-round energy that celebrates heritage, creativity, and community pride. More than 1,000 acres of green space, nearly 100 parks, and over 44 miles of hike and bike trails weave recreation into everyday life, while sports tourism and premier facilities continue attracting visitors from across the region and beyond.
Looking ahead, transformational projects continue to shape our future. A premier destination golf course developed in partnership with World Golf Hall of Famer Lorena Ochoa will introduce a first-of-its-kind experience in South Texas and further elevate McAllen's reputation as a hub for recreation, tourism, and quality-of-life investment. Major infrastructure initiatives, airport expansion, environmental education, and continued capital improvements reflect a city preparing not just for growth, but for generational success.
Recent months brought another historic milestone as McAllen achieved its highest monthly sales tax allocation ever recorded, $12.6 million! That's a clear signal of consumer confidence, investor trust, and sustained regional influence.
These achievements are the outcome of careful planning, responsible budgeting, and a shared commitment to excellence in public service.
We are shaping a city that welcomes families, entrepreneurs, and investors alike, positioning McAllen for generational success through a balanced commitment to safety, culture, and opportunity.
For families seeking community, businesses pursuing growth, and investors planning for the future, the message is clear: our foundation is strong, our vision is bold, and our doors are open. In McAllen, the future isn't something we wait for... Next is Now!
