LAREDO, Texas - Dennis E. Nixon, president and CEO of International Bancshares Corporation, has been recognized in the Texas Senate by state Sen. Judith Zaffirini for 50 years of service in the banking industry.
IBC is based in Lredo. Zaffirini, dean of the Senate, represents Laredo.
An IBC press release said Nixon’s tenure at International Bancshares Corporation has been marked by “visionary strategies and a commitment to excellence,” transforming the company into an industry-leading financial institution with assets of approximately $16.5 billion.
Zaffirini said her resolution highlights Nixon’s “unwavering dedication and leadership.” She said that dedication ad leadership has significantly contributed to the growth and success of International Bancshares Corporation and the broader Texas and Oklahoma communities in which IBC serves.
Zaffirini’s resolution also highlighted Nixon’s “key role” in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), his “relentless efforts” to spur economic development throughout the corporation’s footprint, and his “pivotal role” in promoting and preserving educational opportunities for young people everywhere, with a special focus on minorities and low-to-moderate income individuals.
International Bancshares Corporation’s commitment to improving the health and quality of life for all citizens is exemplified by Nixon’s stewardship in raising more than $4 million for MD Anderson Cancer Center this past year, the press release states. In total, IBC has raised $11 million for MD Anderson over the past ten years.
Nixon has expressed his gratitude for the recognition.
