WESLACO, Texas - RioPlex is hosting an event on Friday, March 16, titled, “Understanding Our Future: RioPlex Economic Update.
The event takes place at South Texas College’s Mid-Valley Campus, Building F, in Weslaco from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Mario Reyna, executive director of RioPlex will give the opening and closing remarks.
"The program will bring together regional leaders, economists, educators, and industry voices to see our realities and chart a path forward—grounded in data, education, and workforce trends—to build sustained, inclusive prosperity for the RioPlex region," Reyna told the RGG Business Journal.
George Cardenas, executive vice president of RioPlex and regional president of Vantage Bank will give welcome remarks.
Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez will give a speech titled, Direction Toward Greater Regional Prosperity..
The keynote speech will be given by Luis Torres, an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. The topic will be: Regional Economic Outlook for the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas.
The topic of Dr. Kevin Peek, an economist at South Texas College, will be: The Socio-Economic Trajectory of the Rio Grande Valley Over the Last 25 Years.
Dr. Salvador Contreras, of UT-Rio Grande Valley will give a presentation titled, RGV Skills Production - Analysis of Current Educational Attainment in the Rio Grande Valley.
The topic of Dr. Samuel Zapata, of Texas A&M University, will be: Agriculture Challenges and Opportunities.
The last speaker will be Jose Olivarez, an economist with South Texas College. His topic: What Kind of Jobs Will We Have in the Future?
