Peña: GBEDC has strategically and intentionally positioned Brownsville on the world stage

Posted

The wheels of economic development in Brownsville, Texas are turning rapidly. The Greater Brownsville EDC has strategically and intentionally positioned our city on the world stage.

This past year has marked an important chapter for Brownsville, and as Chairman of the GBEDC Board, I have had the privilege of seeing firsthand the collaboration that fuels our progress.

Let us not forget that together with our community partners, we can and will achieve great things. The announcements from Amazon, Linde, and Superior GHQ reflect the confidence major employers have in our community and reinforce Brownsville’s position as a competitive and rapidly growing market.

The effect of the various tier suppliers providing goods and services to SpaceX and Rio Grande LNG are beginning to create impacting ripple effects in economic development. And as if that wasn’t enough, other similar sized prospects are in the pipeline.

As I mentioned, the eyes of world are upon us. This does not happen by chance or accident; this is the result of strong partnerships, thoughtful planning, and a shared commitment to strengthening our city’s economic future. We must continue to work together!

Our responsibility is to ensure every project delivers lasting value. That commitment guided our work this year, including breaking ground on the 730-acre Greater Brownsville Tech District—a generational investment creating space for technology, advanced manufacturing, and workforce opportunity.

Whether supporting existing businesses or preparing infrastructure for future industries, our focus remains clear: building pathways to high-paying jobs and long-term resilience for Brownsville.

Looking ahead, I am confident that the momentum we are experiencing is only the beginning. With major employers choosing Brownsville and transformative developments underway, our region is stepping into a new era of competitiveness and opportunity.

I am grateful to serve alongside a dedicated Board, a strong leadership team, and partners across the community who share a bold vision for what Brownsville can and will achieve.
