MISSION, TEXAS - Mission Economic Development Corporation recently hosted the Rio Grande Valley Partnership at their Center for Education & Economic Development.

It was the Partnership’s inaugural RGV Connect event and the topic was trade and transportation.

At the conclusion of the event, Mission EDC CEO Teclo Garcia spoke about a new tech district his organization is launching.

Garcia said MI2D has been created “not just to handle today’s global business, logistics and technology challenges, but to create solutions going forward as international trade, advanced manufacturing and global logistics become more sophisticated, demanding and tech forward.”

Garcia pointed out that MI2D is already equipped with an international bridge, rail, interstate connection, foreign trade zone, and an overweight corridor. It is also adjacent to South Texas College’s technology campus in McAllen and ten minutes from McAllen International Airport.

“It’s expected to attract scores of new companies and create a significant amount jobs,” Garcia said. “Already, major players like Killam Development, UDD, Grupo Century Recycling have announced major projects for MI2D.”

Mission EDC will soon hold a ribbon cutting for the project, Garcia said, predicting “major announcements” are not far away.

Here is a video recording of Garcia’s remarks:

Meanwhile, in other Mission EDC news, Garcia said his department has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Economic Excellence by the Texas Economic Development Council.

Garcia thanked the Mission EDC board and staff for their support, vision and "their extraordinary work, creative thinking and collaborative approach. This award is for everyone."

Garcia continued: “The statewide recognition is a great way to start what promises to be a great year for attracting investment, creating jobs, enhancing the workforce and supporting small businesses in Mission. Here’s to 2026.”
