HARLINGEN, Texas - Marv Esterly recently retired as longtime aviation director for Valley International Airport.

The day before he retired, Esterly gave the RGG Business Journal an exclusive interview. He spoke about his early days in the aviation industry and the improvements he helped provide at VIA.

He said he is proud of those achievements and the team he put together at the airport.

And, as he has said in the past, Esterly spoke in depth about his belief that there should only be one commercial airport in the Rio Grande Valley. He said because of its central location and room to expand, VIA is the obvious choice.

Esterly said he did not want the interview to be about any current disagreements between the City of Harlingen and VIA’s board of directors. He said he wanted his last interview as aviation director to be positive throughout.
