The US needs to make clear immediately that the best trade deal ever enacted #USMCA remains in force.
This means tariff free trade in North America and to remove the threat of 25% tariffs, which effectively blows up the deal.
Tariff free trade for North America is good for our national and economic security. As the trade conflict with China accelerates we need deeper economic integration with Mexico and Canada to compete. Win-Win-Win. We build goods with Mexico and Canada such as vehicles, consumer electronics and aerospace equipment.
USMCA is a smashing success. Since the first Trump administration negotiated and signed the deal China has slipped from our top trading partner to number three. Mexico is now number one and Canada is right behind at number two.
USMCA is particularly important for Texas as we are the largest export state by far. We’ve been the top export state for 23 years!
North American trade also helps us fight inflation as consumers enjoy lower priced goods. It’s also good for our health as Americans enjoy year round access to affordable healthy and yummy fresh fruits and vegetables such as avocados. #MAHA
Tariffs are taxes. It’s time for the US to work closer with Mexico and Canada on making USMCA even stronger. For example, let’s harmonize tariffs against China and other economic competitors. And let’s enhance the TN Visas for areas like elderly and childcare.
