Posted

AUSTIN, Texas - Glenn Hamer, president and CEO of the Texas Association of Business, has discussed four different topics in his Texas Business Minute over the past week.

Here they are:

Texas Leads

“The Texas Association of Business has launched the Texas Leads Trade Coalition to strengthen North America as the world's most competitive trading block. Texas is America's top export state, with exports totaling more than $440 billion in 2023, supporting over a million jobs, and $281 billion worth of trade with Mexico and $75 billion with Canada.

“Our message is simple, trade is good for Texas workers, small businesses and our global competitiveness. As we approach the midterm review of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement, Texas businesses will continue to play a central role in ensuring we remain the centerpiece of the North American economy.”

Space Race

“There's a new space race in Texas, from SpaceX in South Texas and Blue Origin in West Texas to Firefly in Cedar Park and Intuitive Machines in Houston,Texas companies are delivering lunar landers, cargo missions and cutting edge hardware for NASA and the defense community.

“Recent missions highlight a powerful ecosystem, private launch capacity, a deep bench of engineers and smart policy. The result is jobs, investment and a growing supply chain for aerospace, software and advanced manufacturing.

“With Johnson Space Center anchoring human space flight, Texas is proving that commercialization and exploration can soar together. The next giant leap is being built right here in the Lone Star State. Texas is the place for Space.”

Open AI

“Texas businesses need AI-savvy talent, and we're helping build the pipeline. Open AI is partnering with the Texas Association of Business and other groups to launch the open AI Jobs Platform, connecting employers with vetted AI-skilled candidates for full-time roles and project work.

“Open AI will also expand its free academy with industry recognized certification from practical on-the-job AI to advanced prompt engineering delivered right inside ChatGTP study mode. The goal is to certify ten million Americans by 2030 with Texas leading the way.

“For employers, this means faster hiring and verified skills. For workers, it means higher productivity, better pay and new opportunity. In Texas, we don't just talk about the future. We build it together.”

Financial hub

“Y’all Street keeps growing. Scotia Bank is establishing a new regional headquarters in Dallas, bringing more than 1,000 jobs and a $60 million investment to Texas. The hub will focus on corporate and institutional banking services with average wages projected above $135,000.

“It’s another global vote of confidence in North Texas talent. With the new Texas Stock Exchange, other major exchanges like the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ, as well as leading banks, already expanding here, Dallas-Fort Worth is cementing its status as the premier financial hub in North America, high-skilled jobs, global connectivity and a pro business climate. That's a Texas advantage.
