Garcia: Zerluma is the largest single private-sector investment in Mission’s history

Posted

Aluminum manufacturer and recycler Zerluma broke ground on a $50 million state-of-the-art facility in Mission that will create 70 new permanent quality jobs and have a total economic impact of more than $125 million.

It is the largest single private-sector investment in Mission’s history. The nearly 100,000 square-foot, highly-automated facility located on several acres in the Mission Expressway Business Park, will also create hundreds more temporary jobs during construction. And there’s more to come.

Mexico-based Zerluma will recycle US-sourced aluminum and manufacture aluminum billets (long cylinders) for clients in a number of industries in the US, Mexico, Asia and Europe — some of which attended the ceremony.

I am very appreciative of Osorio family and the entire Grupo Century team for their investment and commitment to Mission and the Texas. Looking forward to a great partnership.

Editor's Note: Zerluma responded. Here is what the company said:

"Thank you for your partnership and unwavering support throughout this project. We are honored to be part of Mission’s continued growth and look forward to building a strong, long-lasting relationship with the Mission EDC and the entire community."

Editor's Note: The Rio Grande Valley Partnership also responded. The group said:

"It was an exciting morning joining Mission EDC at the groundbreaking for Zerluma’s new aluminum recycling facility in the City of Mission. At $50 million dollars, with an initial 70 full-time jobs, this is the largest private investment in the City’s history. The aluminum produced by Zerluma will feed directly into the automotive and aerospace manufacturing industries, further strengthening our region’s interconnected economy. Congratulations to Mission EDC, Zerluma, and the City of Mission for bringing this transformative project to the Rio Grande Valley."
