Garcia: Mission EDC was proud to sponsor Gov. Abbott's Small Business Summit

Posted

More resources, more training, more alignment and more jobs were some of priority messages driven home by economic officials and business owners alike Thursday at the Governor’s Small Business Summit held at the Mission Event Center.

Some 200 attendees heard from state subject matter experts, private sector business leaders and workforce and economic development officials — including yours truly — on a variety of very useful and engaging topics and strategies for small businesses. All had excellent practical applications.

A big thank you to Governor Abbott’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism for putting on the conference, all the supporting local and state agencies and the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce for coordinating locally. The Mission EDC was proud to be a primary sponsor for the summit.

Kudos to my most excellent panelists for knocking it out of the park. Truly amazing pros: John Hershey of Workforce Solutions, Gina Cano-Monreal, provost of TSTC Harlingen and Elizabeth Chavez, VP of Development & Community Engagement at Junior’s Supermarket. I really appreciate their time and knowledge shared.

Two last shoutouts: Robby Gonzalez, good friend and owner of the fabulous Loretto Grill, for delivering an inspiring life and career story as the keynote speaker, and to Texas Workforce Commissioner Alberto Treviño, III, for attending and supporting the event.
