EDINBURG Texas - Edinburg Economic Development Corporation is hosting its Bank on INT! Internship Program for a second year.
The program will allow seven interns to gain real-world experience in the banking industry and explore valuable career opportunities while earning $20 an hour.
The program has been set up in partnership with UT-Rio Grande Valley and participating local banks. Those banks include Greater State Bank, Lone Star National Bank, Rio Bank, Texas National Bank, and Vantage Bank.
Raudel Garza, executive director of Edinburg EDC, said the paid internship program connects UTRGV students with local and regional banking institutions, providing hands-on experience in the financial industry while supporting workforce development and talent retention in the Rio Grande Valley.
Garza said that through the program this summer, seven students will earn $20 per hour while gaining valuable professional experience, mentorship, and exposure to careers in banking.
“It's an internship program where students get ten weeks of instruction and real-life experience inside the banks, learning everything from credit analysis to compliance with federal regulatory relations to customer service and marketing,” said Raudel Garza, executive director of Edinburg EDC at a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony.
“The banks that are participating are local banks and they are excited to be part of it. The participating banks hired students that went through the program last year, and they continue to grow their staff by getting really the best of the best. There were seven slots open from the 120 applicants, so very competitive. And we are glad that all of the banks that are participating are local community banks. We are really excited for that.”
Garza added: “Congratulations to this year's interns, and thank you to our regional banking partners for investing in the next generation of talent in the Valley. Edinburg EDC remains committed to supporting workforce development opportunities that prepare students for future careers.”
