LAREDO, Texas - Daniel Covarrubias is director of the Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development at Texas A&M International University in Laredo.

Covarrubias recently presented his 2026 Economic Outlook Report at Laredo Chamber of Commerce’s Vision26 Conference.

The report provided a data-driven snapshot of the economic forces shaping Laredo and the broader border region.

“The report provides a data-driven snapshot of Port Laredo’s position in the North American trade landscape, including trade volumes, bridge crossings, logistics investment, and the bilateral vs. trilateral policy debate heading into the 2026 USMCA Joint Review,” Covarrubias said.

The key findings in the report are:

∙ Port Laredo handled $341 billion in trade through October 2025, roughly $1.1 billion per day

∙ Laredo remains #1 for land-based trade and #1 for USMCA commerce

∙ Commercial truck crossings are running at nearly 19,800 per day, up 54% over the past decade

∙ Warehouse investment exceeded $1 billion over the past three years, more than the previous 15 years combined
