BROWNSVILLE, Texas - The City of Brownsville’s industrial sector is being boosted by a $4 million-plus investment from a computer numerical control machining and metal fabrication company from the Midwest.

Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation President and CEO Gilberto Salinas announced details of Superior GHQ Inc.’s upcoming arrival when appearing on KURV 701’s The Sergio Show with Sergio Sanchez. Sanchez broadcast his morning show live from GBIC’s offices.

Salinas said Superior has chosen Brownsville as a site for its newest operation. He said the company’s arrival would bring jobs, investment and long term growth potential to the region.

“Superior GHQ is a company that specializes in producing components for other manufacturers, for all the manufacturers here in the Rio Grande Valley as well as northern Mexico. It's a CNC (computer numerical control) machine operation metal fabrication as well. It's about $4 million to $5 million capital investment. They will be creating about 40 jobs over the next few years,” Salinas told Sanchez.

“But these are high value jobs. And, again, anytime we say CNC machining, that is a very high skill set. And one of the reasons that they chose the Brownsville area is because of the skill set that we have here, because of everything that's going on with the different companies coming in.”

Salinas continued: “Whenever you hear the word CNC machining, that means you're dealing with very forward thinking companies. So today, actually, we're making that announcement, which is Superior GHQ, a company out of the Midwest, is coming to Brownsville. Yet again, it is another great win for the Brownsville area, a brand new company that is already breaking ground at the North Brownsville Industrial Park.”

According to a GBIC press release, Superior has broken ground on a 15,000 square foot facility. The release says the company is ready to expand as demand grows for its products.

“The facility will support superiors core operations, which include metal fabrication activities in support to support clients in the USA and internationally,” a GBIC press release states. “Superior plans to hire 15 to 20 employees in its first year of operation with a phase two expansion expected to add 10 to 12 more jobs over the next two to three years.”

The GBIC press release says Superior is also evaluating opportunities to consolidate other facilities and expand further in Brownsville, positioning the city as a central hub for its long term growth. It says the project represents a three to $4 million investment in Brownsville industrial sector, and underscores the city's growing reputation as competitive location for advanced manufacturing,

“As part of its mission to foster sustainable economic development, GBIC has worked closely with Superior GHQ throughout the planning and development process, providing site selection assistance, guidance with permitting and connecting the company with local partners to support long term operational needs,” the press release added.

Also appearing on Sanchez's show was Jerry Briones, of GBIC's senior vice president, Nathan Burkhart, of Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation, and Esmy Villarreal, representing the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce.
