SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Dr. Agustín Guillermo Carstens, a renowned economist and former Governor of the Bank of Mexico, will be the keynote speaker at NADBank Summit 2026.

The North American Development Bank will hold its annual summit August 27 and 28 at the Kimpton Santo Hotel, San Antonio, Texas.

The event is curated as an annual high-level dialogue forum that brings together government representatives, international organizations, the private sector, academia, and specialists in the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the United States, economic development, and infrastructure investment, among other areas.

NADBank says this year’s event is centered on the theme “Strengthening binational cooperation to build the infrastructure of tomorrow.” It aims to analyze key challenges and opportunities in binational cooperation, and to identify alternatives to strengthen investment and financing mechanisms for strategic projects in the U.S.-Mexico border region that foster economic growth and regional well-being.

Dr. Carstens served as general manager of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) from December 1, 2017, to June 30, 2025. He served as Governor of the Bank of Mexico from 2010 to 2017 and as Secretary of Treasury and Public Credit from 2006 to 2009. His work at Mexico’s central bank was marked by maintaining inflation under control and earned him an invitation to join the select Group of Thirty, an organization dedicated to deepening understanding of today’s global economic issues.

At the BIS, Carstens became a leading advocate for digital currencies and the modernization of digital banking systems. He also led the efforts of the world’s central banks during the COVID-19 pandemic. He earned a degree in Economics from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) and a doctorate from the University of Chicago.

The event will also feature San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones, and Roberto Coronado, senior vice president and senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

The opening session will include high-level remarks on the bilateral landscape and opportunities for collaboration on border infrastructure, NADBank says.

The Summit program includes sessions focused on economic perspectives, infrastructure financing, cross-border mobility, water security, and regional development, among other topics. The agenda, speaker list, and registration for the NADBank Summit 2026 will be available in the coming days on NADBank’s website.
