Cano: I am proud how far the RGV has come when it comes to disability advocacy

It isn't everyday that the Texas Governor's Committee on People With Disabilities is in town. Thank you for choosing Rio Grande Valley, Texas and the city of Edinburg as the place to host your quarterly meeting.

As a committee member, serving my third term and six years with this committee, I'm always proud to show them how far the RGV has come when it comes to disability advocacy.

We had a great presentations like one from Judge Renee Rodriguez-Betancourt about the specialty court that focuses on mental health, and the juvenile justice system called @lifelines which sure is a trendsetting project.

Also we had a lovely presentation by TEAM MARIO who is getting close to celebrating 10 years of Advocacy for the Autism community. We heard about their wonderful projects with TWCVRS & Enactus from @utrgv.

UTRGV - The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with Team Soar.

The welcome was made by Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza, Jr., and he and spoke about the Inclusion Task Force and great projects he and his city have under Parks and Rec for accessibility. We gifted him some goodies from Disability Chamber of Commerce-RGV and Harlingen, Texas, entrepreneur Chh=ristian's Cookie House as a thank you gift.

We want to thank all of the community of disability advocates the showed up in person and those who provided public comment for sharing your concerns with a committee.

We hope to see everyone today at the Texas HireAbility Employer Forum & Lex Frieden Employment Awards & Lex Frieden Employment Awards where we will have about 240 people in attendance and over four different presentations and a keynote speaker presentation by RJ Mitte.
