BROWNSVILLE, Texas - Esmeralda ‘Esmy’ Villarreal, IOM, president and CEO of the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, has been selected to serve on two well-known statewide associations.
The Texas Association of Business has announced Villarreal will serve on the group’s board of directors for the 2024 term.
Villarreal has also been named as one of 20 members of the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives board for the 2024 fiscal year.
With a background in hospitality and non-profit work, Villarreal has overseen numerous achievements at the Brownsville Chamber, including earning the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's 4 Stars accreditation designation in 2023.
And Villarreal herself has been recognized as one of the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives' "40 Under 40.” She actively contributes to various community boards, saying she is driven by the core values of hard work, honesty, and integrity.
The Texas Association of Business serves as the state designated affiliate to the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and the US Chamber of Commerce (USCOC).
According to its website, TAB works in a bipartisan manner to “vigorously protect Texas' pro-business climate, delivering solutions to the challenges affecting Texas employers.” The website also says the group “works in a bipartisan manner to protect Texas’ pro-business climate.”
Its purpose is to “champion the best business climate in the world, unleashing the power of free enterprise to enhance lives for generations.”

Massey Villarreal, no relation to Esmy Villarreal, is chairman of the TAB board of directors. Established in 1906, the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives (TCCE) is the professional society of chamber of commerce executives, professional staff and affiliated members in the state of Texas.
According to its website, TCCE exists to “serve its membership by providing excellence in professional education, networking, resource and idea exchange opportunities.” Through its catalog of publications, technical assistance and onsite training, the website states, “TCCE provides guidance and leadership to chambers across the state.”
Esmy Villarreal said the TCCE is the longest standing association of chamber of commerce professionals in the nation, working to provide guidance to local and regional chambers through professional education, resources, and networking opportunities.
“It is a profound honor to join the esteemed Board of Directors of the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives (TCCE), the venerable professional society representing chamber of commerce executives, professional staff, and affiliated members in our great state,” Villarreal said.

Villarreal was nominated by the 2024 TCCE board of directors and elected overwhelmingly for a three-year term by the membership, comprised of 250 of the Chambers of Commerce from every part of Texas.
TCCE Board Chair Tony Moline said: “I am very excited to have Esmeralda Villarreal, IOM, on the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives board of directors. The work they are putting in will continue to elevate all Chambers in Texas and through that, the Texas business community. Brownsville should be very proud of the work they are doing.”

In other Brownsville Chamber news, the group is hosing a Public Affairs Luncheon at the Brownsville Events Center on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and the keynote speaker is Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar.
The program is titled “Navigating Fiscal Frontiers." Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
