MISSION, Texas - In a private meeting of key stakeholders with U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, Roma City Manager Alejandro Barrera brought up the issue of Mexican trucks crossing the Roma International Bridge.
Those trucks can turn right and travel down to the rest of the Rio Grande Valley. But they are not permitted to travel left and go north through Zapata County on to Laredo.
In an interview with the RGG Business Journal after the meeting had concluded, Barrera said the prohibition against Mexican trucks going through Zapata County has been in place for some time. But he said could not understand why. He said it does not seem fair.
Barrera also spoke about the growth of trade at the bridge and the importance of a new industrial park being built next to the bridge.
